JACKSON, Wyo. — It was a bit of ‘Ladies Night’ in the Equality State primary as four women—two red and two blue—earned the right to compete in the general election for U.S. Senate and House seats.
Former U.S. House Representative Cynthia Lummis easily bested a 10-candidate field to move on to November. Incumbent U.S. Rep Liz Cheney handily knocked off a relative unknown in Blake Stanley.
On the other side of the ticket, Northern Arapaho tribal member Lynnette Grey Bull is on her way to making history. The 43-year-old bested Carl Beach and Carol Hafner in Tuesday’s primary. Grey Bull would be the first indigenous Congressperson from Wyoming if she could manage to defeat Cheney this fall.
In the race for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Sen. Mike Enzi, it will be Merav Ben-David challenging Lummis from the Democratic ticket. The Laramie resident rose to the top of a 6-candidate field that included Kenneth Casner, James DeBrine, Yana Ludwig, Teton County’s Nathan Wendt, and Rex Wilde.
