JACKSON, Wyo. — Teton County’s emergency personnel responded to a structure fire in the Wagon Road area of Hoback on Sunday, Jan. 5, according to an announcement by the County.

A 911 call at 11:09 a.m. reported a fire possibly located in the basement of a barn with residential units, leading to the dispatch of emergency medical services staff from Jackson Hole Fire/EMS and law enforcement units from the Teton County Sheriff’s Office.

Engine 31 arrived on the scene at 11:32 a.m., having come from Fire Station 3 in Hoback. Firefighters were faced with heavy smoke emanating from the exterior of a large multi-use structure, according to the County’s announcement. Occupants of the structure had reportedly used a hose to minimize the fire.

After confirming that no one remained inside of the structure, Engine 31’s crew began suppressing the blaze. Additional engines, water tenders and ambulances joined the effort from Station 1 in Jackson, Station 2 in Wilson, Station 6 on Moose-Wilson Road and Station 7 in Adams Canyon.

“Multiple fire crews were needed to gain access to the fire that was mainly located in the chimney,” the County’s announcement reads.

The fire was considered controlled by 11:57 a.m. Battalion Chief Matthew Redwine reported that 26 members of Fire/EMS participated in extinguishing the fire, which was suppressed and wrapped up by 1:46 p.m. According to the County, no one was injured in the incident.

“This is a remote area of our County, with response greatly improved with all emergency response vehicles utilizing the new Astoria bridge,” Assistant Chief Brian Coe said in the press release.
