JACKSON, Wyo. — In a matter of hours on Thursday, the Dollar Lake Fire on the Bridger-Teton National Forest’s (BTNF) Pinedale Ranger District grew from 20 acres in size to 600 acres. By Friday morning, it had more than doubled, reaching 1,388 acres.
The Sublette County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) and BTNF reported the fire around 3 p.m. on Thursday. By 6:15 p.m., “the wind-driven fire went from 20 acres to 600 acres,” BTNF posted. BTNF’s Friday morning Facebook post notes the estimated 1,388-acre size, and states that the cause is still undetermined.
“The Dollar Lake Fire will transition to a type 3 incident command team,” BTNF posted Friday. “The fire was held east of Green River Road overnight with burn operations. The plan for today is to keep the fire east of the road and scout potential line locations to east and north.”
SCSO issued an emergency evacuation for the Dollar Lake Area. Everyone is encouraged to avoid the area to allow firefighting personnel fast access. Green River Lakes Road remains closed.
Aerial firefighting resources are tackling the blaze along with ground teams.
Buckrail reader Allie Miller was camping in the Green River Lakes area when the fire broke out and shared the following video she took as she was evacuating.
Air quality in the area is considered moderate by AirNow.gov.
