JACKSON, Wyo. — The two major wildfires burning on Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) held steady over the last 24 hours, according to Tuesday morning updates by incident managers.

The Dollar Lake Fire will be the subject of a community meeting in Cora on Wednesday, Sept. 3, from 6 to 7 p.m. at The Place Bar and Grill (2000 N. Highway 352). The meeting will also be livestreamed on the BTNF Facebook page. That fire is reported to be 15,282 acres in size and 25% contained, slightly larger than yesterday’s reported 15,236 acres.

Crews have worked on firing operations along the southeastern side of the fire to remove dead and downed trees to protect the Red Cliff Bible Camp and Kendall Valley areas. Operations have also included improving direct line near Little Sheep Mountain, and attacking new starts throughout the fire’s footprint.

The Willow Creek Fire is 4,066 acres and 40% contained, per Tuesday’s update.

“Crews are continuing a direct approach to the fire’s containment,” the incident update reads. “Steady progress was made, gaining more ground along the eastern and southern perimeter. Crews are spiking out along the fire’s edge to be more readily available to construct handline and continue mopping up. Helicopters are working with crews on the ground to address areas with heat and stop potential growth of the fire.”

Hot, dry conditions are expected to continue this week. Evacuation, closure and fire restriction orders remain unchanged.

BTNF shared on Tuesday that a new fire has been discovered on the Pinedale Ranger District: the 0.1-acre Seven Lakes Fire was discovered in the Union Pass area, northeast of the Dollar Lake Fire.

“Resources responding to suppress the fire include a helicopter and helitack crew, smokejumpers, and other fixed wing aerial resources and firefighting personnel,” BTNF posted to Facebook. “Cause is undetermined. Smoke may be visible in the area, please do not report.”

Teton Interagency Fire lists three additional fires burning on various BTNF districts:

  • The 0.1-acre Surveyor Fire in the Pinedale region, discovered Sept. 1, thought to be human-caused, considered contained
  • The 0.1-acre Strawberry Fire on the Greys River Ranger District, discovered Aug. 25, thought to be lightning-caused, considered active
  • The 20-acre Burnt Creek Fire on the Blackrock Ranger District, discovered Aug. 22, cause under investigation, considered controlled
