JACKSON, Wyo. — Dancers’ Workshop has announced the launch of a new weekly class designed for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and/or aging-related mobility issues.

“Moving Through Parkinson’s” will meet weekly on Tuesdays from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. in the Center for the Arts building and is open to those individuals as well as their care partners. The class aims to support participants in improving balance, combating stiffness, enhancing coordination and spatial awareness, and overall well-being, per the nonprofit. Music will accompany each session.

“Movement is powerful at every stage of life,” class instructor Sarah Hemphill said in the announcement. “This class allows participants to explore their abilities, build confidence and enjoy the freedom of moving their bodies in a supportive, creative environment.”

The class was designed by Lisa Morgan, former artistic director of the workshop and current faculty at Colorado State University as well as affiliate faculty at the Center for Healthy Aging.

“Research around the management of Parkinson’s symptoms shows that focused physical activities can help create alternative pathways for movement in the brain, resulting in temporary improvements in balance, coordination, and motor function,” the class announcement reads. “MTP integrates these principles through structured dance and movement patterns tailored to participants’ abilities.”

Pay-what-you-can fees are available, otherwise each class costs $10 per participant. Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and supportive footwear. Register at dwjh.org/adultclasses.
