JACKSON, Wyo. — After breakfast this morning the Old Faithful Snow Lodge will close for the winter.
Normally open for snowmobilers and other winter visitors, operators of the lodge, Xanterra, announced recently that overnight lodging would just not be prudent during this time of COVID.
“Due to recent incidences of Covid-19 sourced in the Old Faithful area, and out of an abundance of caution, we will close our Old Faithful Snow Lodge operations on Tuesday, October 13. This includes the rooms, food services and gift shop at Old Faithful Snow Lodge,” the company stated in a release.
The decision came abruptly, as did notice Madison Campground was shut down a week early on October 11 “due to recent incidences of Covid-19 sourced at the campground.”
For guests with reservations, money will be refunded automatically. Xanterra is attempting to accommodate guests at nearby Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel, but that facility is just about full for the winter.
The closing leaves no lodging options at all in the Old Faithful area, but the snow lodge will operate during the day as a warming area serving food and selling gifts.
