JACKSON, Wyo. — Earlier this week, a Jackson Hole High School (JHHS) student was involved in a severe bike accident on his way to school.
An online fundraiser states that Joe Ornowski, a freshman at JHHS, was life flighted to Salt Lake City on Monday after suffering a traumatic head injury. He remains in the ICU but is slowly recovering.
A GoFundMe created for the local student has raised nearly $30,000.
“To show our love and support for both Joe and the entire Ornowski family, we have created this GoFundMe page in hopes any donations will assist them with meals, travel expenses and medical costs as they commute between home and Salt Lake City for the weeks to come,” reads the fundraiser site.
Joe’s mother, Suzanne Ornowski took to the page to express her gratitude to the community for its support and generosity.
“The outpouring of such kindness has been completely overwhelming,” Ornowski wrote on Wednesday.
Ornowski plays on the Jackson Youth Hockey Team and the Jackson Hole Composite Mountain Bike team. Those closest to him describe him as “a wonderful brother, son and friend to many more as well as one of the nicest young men you will ever meet.”
This morning, Ornowski’s mother Suzanne, provided an update on her son’s condition.
“Today started a bit rocky as it was hard to wake up and get the day started but he was able to walk to get an X-ray and back. He slept most of the day and perked up this evening. He took a shower and had his neck brace changed. He did a great job drinking so when his IV fell out they did not need to replace it. Hoping he will not need any more IV electrolytes tomorrow.”
