JACKSON HOLE, WYO – The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce released numbers on the local economy this week. The October update included very strong lodging tax revenue for August. Sales tax, however, was down sharply in September. Visitation overall curbed slightly in October, mainly due to early inclement weather.
The following is a summary of this Jackson Hole Economic Dashboard:
- Teton County Lodging Tax for August 2017 was up by 21.9% as compared to August 2016 and up by 29.3% as compared to August 2015.
- Sales & Use Tax Income for Teton County for September 2017 was down by -13.7% as compared to 2016 and down -15.3% as compared to September 2015. http://revenue.wyo.gov/tax-distribution-reports/aggregate-distribution-by-month-year-1
- Unemployment rate for September 2017 was consistent at 1.9% as compared to September 2016 and down -0.3% as compared to September 2015.
- Visitation at Grand Teton National Park (GTNP) was up by 0.7% for October 2017 as compared to October 2016 and down -1.67% as compared to October 2015. GTNP visitation for January through October 2017 was up by 1.24% as compared to the same time period in 2016.
- Visitation at Yellowstone National Park (YNP) was down by -12.4% for October 2017 as compared to October 2016 and down by -15.88% as compared to October 2015. YNP visitation for January through October 2017 was down by -3.0% as compared to the same time period in 2016.
- Visitation at the Jackson Hole & Greater Yellowstone Visitor Center (JH & GY VC) for October 2017 was down by -13.3% as compared to October 2016 and down by -5.1% as compared to October 2015. JH & GY VC visitation for January through October 2017 was down by -11.9% compared to the same time period in 2016.
- Visitation at the Home Ranch Welcome Center for October 2017 had a total number of 4290 visitors, with 112602 total visitors from January to October 2017.
- Jackson Hole Airport Enplanements for October 2017 was up by 2.9% as compared to October 2016 and up by 25.43% as compared to October 2015. JH Airport Enplanements for January through October 2017 was down by -0.11% as compared to the same time period in 2016.
- DestiMetrics Occupancy was up by 6.67% for October 2017 as compared to October 2016 and up 13.74% as compared to October 2015.
- DestiMetrics ADR was up 3.68% for October 2017 as compared to October 2016 and up 20.13% as compared to October 2015.
- Business Licenses Issued was down by -10.5% for October 2017 as compared to October 2016 and was up by 142.8% as compared to October 2015.
- Real Estate sales were up by 3.33% (# of sales) and down -23.74% ($ volume) for the 3rd quarter of 2017 as compared to the 3rd quarter of 2016; they were up by 24% (# of sales) and up by 69.2% ($ volume) as compared to the 3rd quarter of 2015.
