JACKSON, WY — You don’t have the time, or perhaps the physical ability, to be a volunteer firefighter. But you want to do something to help if disaster strikes Jackson.

Teton County Emergency Management is offering a three-day free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training April 13, 14 and 27. Learn the basic skills that are useful in an emergency or disaster. Once trained, you can join the volunteer team that meets once a month to learn, train, and prepare to assist in local emergencies.

The CERT team of about 80 volunteers has helped with the Budge Drive landslide, Horse Thief fire, and countless other disasters in Teton County. They’ve volunteered at the emergency operations center, helped support first responders and Search and Rescue missions, and helped provide shelter for displaced Teton County residents.

“If you want to help during a disaster, you want to be a part of CERT,” said Teton County Emergency Management Coordinator Rich Ochs.

The class is three full days (weekends), April 13, 14, and 27. It’s limited to 25 people, so register ahead of time. Email em@tetoncountywy.gov to register. Learn more on the event’s Facebook page.
