WYOMING – A Casper man is dead following a collision near Wheatland Monday. David S. Edwards, 47, of Casper succumbed at the scene to injuries sustained after his delivery truck collided with a semi.
On September 17, Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to milepost 100 on Interstate 25 near Wheatland at 5:00pm. The crash occurred in a construction zone where the northbound traffic is diverted to the southbound side of the interstate.
A 2007 Peterbilt combination unit was traveling southbound on Interstate 25. A 2009 GMC delivery truck was traveling northbound when the driver partially drove his vehicle off the eastside of the highway. The driver then over-corrected to the left and entered into the southbound lane of travel, colliding with the driver’s side of the trailer being pulled by the Peterbilt.
The GMC then spun out of control onto the ramp at Exit 100 with the vehicle coming to a rest against the guardrail. The driver of the Peterbilt was able to come to a controlled stop several hundred feet from the collision.
Edwards was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision.
This is the 79th fatality on Wyoming’s highways in 2018 compared to 108 in 2017, 86 in 2016, and 112 in 2015 to date.
