JACKSON, Wyo. — Characterized as Native Americana with fingerstyle guitar as his centerpiece, Cary Morin has been described as “one of the best acoustic pickers on the scene today” as well as “one of Colorado’s great treasures” (NPR Music). Born in Billings, raised in Great Falls and later relocating to Northern Colorado, the Crow tribal member and son of an Air Force officer crafts an inimitable style that touches on blues, bluegrass, jazz, jam, reggae, and dance. He’ll take stage for a two-night run with his band Cary Morin & Ghost Dog this Friday and Saturday at the Silver Dollar Showroom.
Listening to Morin’s 2020 release, Dockside Saints, it’s apparent that Morin has honed and refined his craft through the years. Inspired heavily by the Southern gumbo sounds of New Orleans including Creole, Cajun and Zydeco, his distinctive sound is singular and easy to digest as much as it is intriguing and simplistic. Morin has garnered a slew of awards, including Honorable Mention at the 2018 International Songwriting Competition, Best Blues CD at both the Independent Music Awards and the Indigenous Music Awards for his 2017 release, Cradle to the Grave, and a 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Fort Collins Music Association.
Morin’s roots-rock band includes Celeste Di Iorio (harmony vocals), A.J. Fullerton (guitar & vocals), Luke Hunter (bass & vocals), and Jordan Pasquin (drums, percussion, & vocals).
