DRIGGS, Wyo. — After assessing spring conditions, Caribou-Targhee National Forest opened its Westside Ranger District gates on Wednesday, May 15.

The open lower elevation Forest Service road gates include:

  • Lower E. Mink Creek Road Gate on Forest Road 001, just east of Lead Draw Trailhead
  • Upper Scout Mt. Road Gate on Forest Road 001, south of E. Fork of Mink Creek Nordic Center turn-off
  • Pebble Basin Road Gate on Forest Road 036, north of Lava Hot Springs
  • South Fork of Mink Creek Road Gates on Forest Road 163, one gate is west of Bannock Highway and the other gate is south of the Garden Gap area

High snow pack and road damage has impacted other gate openings at this time. Clifton Creek Road Gate, off of Mink Creek Road, and Lower Taylor Loop on Forest Road 890 remain closed.

Westside District is located in southeast Idaho, bordering the north end of Pocatello.

The National Forest Service asks people to respect the forest and only travel on roads that are dry.
