JACKSON, Wyo. — The Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center’s (BTAC) backcountry avalanche forecast as of Monday, Dec. 16, warns recreationists of dangerous avalanche conditions.
According to the report, recent snow and wind in the Tetons are making it likely that human-triggered avalanches breaking one to three feet deep can occur both in wind-loaded terrain and in areas more sheltered from the wind.
“Sticking to lower-angled slopes remains your best approach,” BTAC writes. “Recognize that you could trigger avalanches from above, to the side or below steeper slopes.”
On Sunday, Dec. 15, a slide occurred on Teton Pass, pictured below.
Dangerous avalanche conditions are also forecasted for the Salt River and Wyoming Ranges and the Snake River Range, with moderate danger on Togwotee Pass.
