BREAKING: Pursuit of stolen vehicle in Jackson ends north of Grover, WY

JACKSON, Wyo. — Authorities pursued a stolen vehicle from Jackson to the north of Grover, Wyoming early this morning, reaching speeds of over 100 mph.

On November 24, 2020, at 3:47 a.m. the Jackson Police Department responded to the Mountain Modern Motel on W. Broadway to investigate a case of a stolen Toyota Corolla. The victim stated that he turned the car on to warm it up just prior to going to work. A few moments later the RP discovered that the vehicle was no longer parked in front of their hotel room and saw it driving out of the parking lot. The victim reported the vehicle stolen immediately.

At 3:50 a.m. a Jackson Police Department Patrol Sergeant spotted the vehicle traveling southbound on Buffalo Way approaching Maple Way. The Jackson Police Sergeant attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle. On Maple Way, the vehicle failed to yield to the JPD Sergeant and turned southbound on US Hwy 89. Another JPD unit joined in the pursuit. The driver of the vehicle sped southbound through the intersection of High School Road at speeds approaching 100 mph. The second unit to get involved continued to pursue the vehicle south of the Town of Jackson. Based on the extreme speeds at which the driver was eluding law enforcement the JPD Sergeant terminated the pursuit at 03:52 a.m. The vehicle was last seen heading south on US 89.

The Teton County Sheriff’s Office dispatch notified their deputy on duty as well as the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

At 4:23 a.m. at mile marker 117 on US 89 near the Town of Alpine, a Wyoming Highway Patrol Trooper spotted the vehicle and another pursuit ensued southbound on US 89. The trooper pursued the vehicle at speeds reaching 100 mph again.

Just north of Etna, Wyoming, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office attempted unsuccessfully to intervene in the pursuit with Stop Sticks. The vehicle continued southbound eluding the Wyoming Highway Patrol and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. Just north of the town of Grover, Wyoming the trooper intervened in the pursuit which caused the stolen vehicle to leave the roadway and crash into a fence.

The suspect, a 32 year-old male Colorado resident, was taken into custody without further incident. The suspect is in custody for charges in Lincoln County. Charges are pending in Teton County and the Town of Jackson relating to the theft of the vehicle and the pursuit.
