A group of crows is called a murder. [Wikipedia] Two is not quite a group, hence an attempted murder, maybe this one's for the birds only. Or birders.

JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Some of our fair-weather friends are off to places like Arizona or Florida for the winter. These ‘snow birds’ are indicative of what we see happen with largescale migrations of birds out of Jackson Hole and headed for warmer environs.

But not all birds migrate, though. Some stay here all winter.

Bottoms Up! Bird & Nature Club will meet in Library this Tuesday evening. (JH Wildlife)

Ducks at 10º below? Chickadees in a whiteout? Cassin’s or House Finches fighting over the feeders? Susan Patla and Susan Marsh will present the challenges of identifying birds in a JH winter at the regular meeting of the Jackson Hole Bird & Nature Club Tuesday, December 11 from 6-8pm at the Teton County Library.

Have you ever wondered what is the difference between a raven and a crow, for instance? All shall be revealed and more at the meeting of the Bird & Nature Club.

The event is free and open to the public. Everyone is invited to attend and share observations of the birds, mammals, amphibians, and other critters that roam our valley. Show up and bring a friend.

And don’t forget this year’s Jackson Hole Christmas Bird Count will take place on Saturday, December 15. Leaders will talk about protocol and what you can expect to find for this year’s CBC event. This is a community effort so join birders across North America and beyond in the largest and oldest Citizen Science project in the world. JH Bird & Nature Club will have its usual pre-count breakfast at Bubba’s at 7:30am on December 15. It’s always a fun way to start the day.
