JACKSON, Wyo. — Fees at the Trash Transfer Station, Recycling Center and Household Hazardous Waste Facility are set to increase on May 17.
A public hearing was held this morning, May 16, during the Teton County Board of Comunity Commissioners meeting. The board approved the fee list and passed a resolution in a unanimous vote.
Teton County Integrated Solid Waste and Recycling (ISWR) proposed the fee increase after projecting a $749,000 shortfall for fiscal year 2023 due to “reduced tonnages at the Trash Transfer Station.”
According to the fee list, a roughly five-and-a-half percent increase will be charged for landfill-bound trash, dead animals, construction and demolition waste, concrete, yard waste, dimensional lumber and grease trap waste.
Food waste, priced at $75 per ton will increase 24% to $93 per ton or 4.7 cents per pound. Mattresses will now cost $30 to dispose of, up from $26 and items like refrigerators, AC units and dehumidifiers will cost $40 each, up from $35.
The sorting fee for Terra Firma and Yellow Iron will increase by $100/ton or about 21 cents/pound.
At the Recycling Center, fees for items such as bear spray, batteries, mercury, motor oils and propane will not increase.
Electronic waste will increase by 10 cents per pound. Corrosives and poisons will increase to $12/gallon, up from $8/gallon.
ISWR did not raise fees for FY23 and the minimum fee at the Trash Transfer Station will remain at $10.
The 45-day public comment period opened March 30.
ISWR is also adding a credit/debit card “convenience fee” of 2.55% with a $2 minimum. Online payment will also include a 2.55% fee with a $2 minimum. E-checks will have a fee based on the payment amount, starting at $2.
These fees can be avoided by paying with a check or cash at the scale house.
