JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jackson Broncs took care of business in their season opener, downing the Teton Timberwolves 34-12 in a non-conference game in Driggs, Idaho.
Jackson bolted to an early 28-0 lead by halftime but to say they never looked back would be incorrect. Jackson, again, failed to finish off an opponent and Teton, again, refused to go away.
The Wolves came out in the second half looking like a different team. Teton took advantage of Jackson turnovers and miscues to chew into the 4-touchdown lead, making it 28-12 by the end of the 3rd quarter.
The Broncs held on, however, adding a late score to make it a 34-12 final.
Junior quarterback Sadler Smith had a big first half, finding tight end Colter Dawson on three TD passes after WR Nate Keipert left the game with an injury. Brody Hasenick also broke off a few big runs. Will Pew was solid on defense.
For the Timberwolves, Luke Thompson was impressive on both sides of the ball and Hyrum Hueseveldt led the way in Teton’s running game.
The Broncs head to Montpelier, Idaho looking for some revenge against Bear Lake. The Bears handed Jackson its only loss at home last season—a 13-7 game the Broncs would like to have back.
