JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Acoustic dance music lives an obscure existence in the modern age. Founded in New York, the concoction that Boulder-based Banshee Tree has brewed up (they call it “mumble jazz”) lives in an interesting space this is at once accessible and quirky. Folk pop, swing, deep trance, hot jazz, even EDM finds its way into the singular soup that is cooked up by the core songwriting duo of guitarist Thomas LaFond and drummer Kalyn Pembridge. Rounded out by upright bass and fiddle, the quartet appeals to fans of Gogol Bordello, Caravan Palace and Django Reinhardt.
Peruse the above playlist for a dive into the group’s 2017 release, In the Company of Crows. The days are short and the nights are long, so get out and dance and sing some songs!
Banshee Tree, 7:30-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Silver Dollar Showroom. Free. WortHotel.com.
