Bank of Jackson Hole’s Angel Tree program captures spirit of Christmas

JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Bank of Jackson Hole is so close to fulfilling its annual Angel Tree program this year, they just need a little help pushing them over the hump.

If you don’t know or don’t bank with BOJH, that’s ok. Here’s the ‘sitch.’

Every Christmas season dating back to 2007, tellers at the bank—in particular those at the Hillside Branch of BOJH—take it upon themselves to do the work of Claus himself. An Angel Tree is erected in the lobby of the Hillside branch with up to a hundred or so ‘angels’ representing kids in the community who could really use a hand up.

Various organizations like Redtop Meadows, Turning Point, and the Van Vleck House, provide the bank with names of kids in need and what they could really use. The wish list includes a few basic and dire needs like clothing, and expands out to fun things kids enjoy.

“For instance, we have one right now for a boy that says he wants jeans, a shirt, or a sweatshirt. He would also like a Legos and Hot Wheels toy,” Laura Abrams, senior vice president at the BOJH. “It’s a mix of something they really need and something fun like a toy…because they are kids.”

Random and anonymous donors then step in the gap by choosing an angel’s name hanging on the tree and purchasing the items for that child. These Santa’s helpers them bring the presents back to the bank and the employees at the BOJH get them back to the organizations that made the original requests.

This year, Bank of Jackson Hole received 86 angel requests. They have managed to fill all but eight and the deadline is December 20.

Can you help? The BOJH Hillside branch is open Saturdays 8am to 12:30pm.
