JACKSON, WYO, The Bridger-Teton National Forest has temporarily closed the Astoria boat ramp along the Snake River. The temporary closure went into effect Tuesday morning March 26. The Astoria boat ramp access road was plowed last week for the annual Karen Oatey Pole, Pedal Paddle event. However, a considerable amount of snow remains and the road surface is very soft with a 6-8 foot wide mud hole. In order to prevent damage to the road, the entrance road is temporarily closed until more snow melt occurs. The road will be re-opened as soon as the surface dries out enough to sustain vehicle use. Anglers can still access this area via foot. All other boat ramps along the Snake River are still snow-covered.
The public is encouraged to check with the Forest Service on current conditions before going out on the river.
Cache Creek Road, the primary access point for the popular Cache Creek trailhead is also closed temporarily due to melting snow and muddy road conditions.
