Recreationists Take Heed: Cache Creek Road Closed Temporarily

JACKSON, WY–Heads up recreationists: the road to Cache Creek trailhead is temporarily closed. The parking area at the Nelson Drive trailhead is also closed.

Bridger-Teton National Forest issued the temporary closure Monday morning, effective immediately. The closure is necessary to allow the road crew to help protect the road surface and alleviate flooding. Warming temps and deteriorating snow floor over the weekend resulted in some minor accidents and a number of stuck vehicles.

The road crew will also clear as much slush off the road and parking areas as possible. This will allow the road surface to dry more quickly, and maintain the road and parking lot for use in the spring and summer months. Jackson District Ranger Mary Moore is asking for people’s patience and cooperation: “If people can hold off driving to these trailheads for a little while, we can avoid damage to the road surface.”

The road will be re-opened as soon as the snow melts out and the road dries enough to sustain vehicle use.

The trailheads are still accessible via foot or bike travel. The public is encouraged to check with the Forest Service on current conditions before attempting to drive to the trailhead.
