JACKSON, Wyo. — From April 28 to May 1, members of Teton County in both Idaho and Wyoming can participate in the City Nature Challenge 2023 to find and record as many wild animals, plants, fungi and other species as possible.
City Nature Challenge is a global collaborative event to motivate people of all ages to connect to nature and engage with citizen science.
According to the U.S. Forest Service, “citizen science allows community members with more in-depth knowledge of an area to guide scientists and managers who may not be as familiar” by collecting and uploading observed data.
Anyone who wants to participate can create an iNaturalist account and upload observations of wild organisms. Experts and enthusiasts will continually improve identifications and align taxonomy to reflect the most recent scientific evidence through May 7, with global results announced May 8.
