JACKSON, Wyo. — As some Cajuns like to say, “Pinch the tail, suck that head!” It’s time to boogie with crawfish and that world famous Crescent City groove. The spirit of New Orleans music, food and culture is revived once again with the 15th Annual Crawfish Boil. Featuring seasoned big easy quintet, the New Orleans Suspects, the vibe is set to commence this Sunday at Snow King Sports & Events Center.

NOLA is an anomaly of a music mecca, and the sound that permeates the streets and clubs is an undeniable blend of second line beats, Funky Meters-esque grooves, Mardi Gras Indian dancing and chanting, and almost always, brass. Originally called The Usual Suspects, the New Orleans Suspects embody this very spirit. Formed in 2009 and solidified as a touring unit a few years later, the five-piece brings a slightly different lineup since their last show in Jackson Hole. Led by guitarist Jake Eckert (Dirty Dozen Brass Band) and boogie-woogie keyboardist CR Gruver (Outformation), the lineup is funked-up by drummer Eddie Christmas (Eric Lindell, Billy Iuso), bassist Eric Vogel (North Mississippi Allstars), and saxophonist Brad Walker (George Porter). Though highly experienced individually, there’s no denying what the combined prowess of this lineup will deliver.

Opener River Eckert is a 15-year-old piano player born and raised in New Orleans. He carries the torch of legends Professor Longhair, James Booker and Dr. John.

Add 1,000 pounds of fresh Louisiana-style boil crawfish served with all the fixings, free games, exhibits and a contest, this is looking like a home run. And the all-ages event is free to attend.

“The core value of this event is all about bringing people together to enjoy incredible food, music, and culture – and we’re proud to keep it free for the community,” said John Cannizzaro, the event’s organizer. “With a fantastic lineup and authentic Louisiana flavors, we can’t wait to share this experience with everyone!”

15th Annual Crawfish Boil at 12 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, at Snow King Sports & Events Center. Music starts at 1 p.m. Free, all ages. Meals are priced at $20 for 1lb of crawfish with corn and potatoes. JHCrawfishFest.com.
