YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — Today, Nov. 29, Yellowstone National Park (YNP) is celebrating Green Friday as an alternative to Black Friday.

“Why wake up early to go shopping when you can wake up early to go hiking instead?” YNP writes on its Facebook page.

According to the National Park Service (NPS), Green Friday encourages everyone to get outdoors and visit national parks and public lands the Friday after Thanksgiving. Because being outdoors is good for people’s wellbeing, the NPS is aiming to alleviate the stress of Black Friday with getting outside.

YNP is encouraging visitors to stop by the Albright Visitor Center to warm up and chat with rangers at the desk, open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today. For those who aren’t in the area, YNP suggests downloading the NPS App to explore more than 400 national parks nationwide, including Grand Teton National Park.
