YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — Yellowstone National Park (YNP) has released its visitation statistics for September, and the figures represent a significant increase over last year’s numbers.

YNP reports 838,458 recreation visits in September of 2023, a hike of 48% over September 2022’s 567,587 recreation visits and 21% more than September 2019’s 693,118 recreation visits. YNP says it uses 2019 data as a comparison point since it was “pre-COVID and the subsequent years until 2023 included unusual visitation trends due to COVID (2020, 2021) and the historic flood event in 2022 that closed the park for about two weeks in June.”

This brings the year’s total visitation to 4,161,602 recreation visits so far, a 38% increase from January to September of 2022’s 3,005,194 recreation visits and an increase of 9% from Jan. – Sept. 2019’s 3,807,815 recreation visits.
