MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, Wyo. — Yellowstone National Park (YNP) has released its July 2023 visitation statistics, reporting a big bump compared to July of last year.
This July saw 969,692 recreation visits to YNP, representing a 63% increase from July 2022’s 596,562 recreation visits. For the sake of comparison, recreation visits in July of 2019 (notably pre-pandemic) were at 936,062.
So far this year, YNP has hosted 2,463,202 recreation visits, an increase of 33% from last year’s 1,855,396, and an increase of 7% from 2019’s 2,294,691.
See the figures below for year-to-date trends in recreation visits through July in years past:
- 2023 – 2,463,202
- 2022 – 1,855,396 (The park was closed June 13 through June 21 following the historic flood event. Three entrances opened June 22. The Northeast Entrance opened Oct. 15 and the North Entrance opened Oct. 30.)
- 2021 – 2,668,765
- 2020 – 1,674,699 (The park was closed March 24 through May 17 due to COVID-19. Two entrances opened on May 18 and the remaining three opened on June 1.)
- 2019 – 2,294,691
- 2018 – 2,322,271
