Buckrail photographer Nick Sulzer spotted this grizzly bear family venturing out into the spring sunshine last weekend.

Bears are emerging from their winter slumber as temperatures rise and snow melts. Grizzly bears and black bears have been spotted across the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem this spring.

This means it’s time to brush up on bear-aware recreation practices. When venturing outdoors during bear season, stay in groups and always carry bear spray.

When wildlife-watching, it’s imperative to give wild animals plenty of space. Use a spotting scope, binoculars or a telephoto lens to maintain at least 100 yards of distance while bear-watching.
