WYOMING – Congrats are in order for 2019 Wyoming Teacher of the Year, Valerie Bruce!

Mrs. Bruce (R) and the 2018 Wyoming Teacher of the Year, Sara Reed (L)

Mrs. Bruce teaches first grade at Rozet Elementary where Campbell County School District administrators, fellow teachers, and a whole bunch of students not-so-secretly gathered in a surprise assembly to honor her on Tuesday. Bruce was presented her award.

The whole award winning thing might be getting routine for the veteran teacher who has been at Rozet for nine years. Bruce was also named district teacher of the year earlier this year.

Bruce said she knew at a young age that she wanted to be a teacher. She draws inspiration from her grandmother who taught for 42 years.

“She is a champion for students and places relationships as a top priority,” Rozet Principal Nate Cassidy said. “Her classroom is built on trust, hard work and a growth mindset. She has a passion for helping others learn, sharing curiosities, igniting passions, and aiding children in finding their futures.”

State Superintendent Jillian Balow added, “Mrs. Bruce understands the power of relationships and fully embraces the opportunity to work, learn, and grow with her students every day. Her classroom is built on trust, hard work, and a growth mindset; and she models what it is to be a lifelong learner.”

The award remains in the district, by the way. Sara Reed, a kindergarten teacher at Hillcrest Elementary School in Campbell County School District won Teacher of the Year in 2018.
