JACKSON, Wyo. — State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Balow admitted students in Wyoming may have to finish out the school year at home.

In a video message Monday, Balow said, “With school closures in Wyoming extended, it’s possible that you may not return to a school building this year. This is a new journey. Embrace the challenges and the successes.”

All 48 school districts have come up with an Adapted Learning Plan that teachers began carrying out this week as many schools returned from spring break.

As students adjust to the new normal, Balow urged kids to be patient with their teachers.

“It’s not business as usual for your teachers. Recognize that they are human and they are trying something new and they miss you,” Balow said. “You’re living in a unique moment. One that is full of uncertainty and really big decisions.”

Balow urged students to remain open to new ways and new methods. She encouraged everyone to express themselves through art, music, movement, writing, and good deeds for others.

“Be patients and give your best effort. It won’t feel like regular school,” Balow added. “And I suspect some of you may settle in and enjoy your new normal.”
