WYOMING – On a day dubbed ‘Giving Tuesday,’ it is encouraging to see Wyoming ranks No. 12 overall in its giving nature, according to a WalletHub survey.

The latest World Giving Index shows that Americans are among the world’s most generous people, ranking No. 4 out of 140 countries. US donors in 2017 gave more than $410 billion to charity, with 70 percent of the funds coming directly from individuals, according to the National Philanthropic Trust.

But Americans do more than reach in their pockets to help others. They also contribute their time—and plenty of it. Nearly 63 million people volunteer in the US, serving a combined total of 7.9 billion hours per year, the equivalent of $184 billion of service.

Wyoming excelled in the volunteering aspect of giving, pulling down a #3 ranking to go with its #35 charitable giving. Only Minnesota and New Hampshire pitched in more than Wyoming in 2017.

The most charitable states in America were Minnesota, Utah and New York—ranking 1,2, and 3, respectively. The stingiest? Nevada, followed by Rhode Island and Arizona.
