WYOmericana Caravan announces call to musicians for 7th annual tour

WYOMING — The talent pool of Wyoming musicians is booming and it’s rising up from every little corner of the state. WYOmericana Caravan Tour has announced a call to Wyoming-based musicians, songwriters and acts that perform predominantly original material to apply for a series of shows in Fall 2021, which will be the seventh annual Tour through Wyoming and surrounding states. Interested acts based in Wyoming are encouraged to apply now through 7 p.m. MST on March 9. Application and guidelines for artists can be found at WYOmericana.com.

Described as “a traveling concert circus of sorts” by The New York Times in a full page article “Touring, the Wyoming Way,” the annual WYOmericana Caravan Tour is a rolling representation and snapshot of Wyoming’s burgeoning songwriter scene. The curated tour features multiple acts caravanning down the road, performing individual sets—with the suspense of ad-libbed cross-band collaborations—followed by an extended encore that includes all members of the tour on stage simultaneously, taking chances and blending talents. The camaraderie that grows between the musicians is harvested through stage moments and roadside attractions. An educational component also encompasses tour, engaging communities through localized workshops and all-ages events.

Co-founded by songwriters Aaron Davis and Seadar Rose of Screen Door Porch, the Tour has been an evolution since the first eighteen-show run in 2013. The idea is to propel Wyoming’s music scene as an artist collective, exhibiting to the world that there’s a creative movement in the USA’s least populated state. The most honest way to do that is simple—put some of the state’s best musicians and songwriters on the road and take the traveling show not only to the wonderful people of Wyoming but to surrounding states. Past tours have featured Jalan Crossland, Screen Door Porch, The Patti Fiasco, J Shogren Shanghai’d, Canyon Kids, Sneaky Pete & the Secret Weapons, The Littlest Birds, Low Water String Band, Dauphin, Aaron Davis & the Mystery Machine, Jason Tyler Burton, and Shawn Hess.

The tour was named Top Arts/Entertainment Event of 2013 by Casper Star-Tribune and in 2014, the film WYOMERICANA debuted on the big screen at the Cheyenne International Film Festival and then took home 1st place at the Laramie Film Festival. Filmed during the first annual tour, the rock-u-mentary captures behind the scenes footage of the bands on the road, interviews with the musicians, hilarious banter, and the on-stage moments that make this a one-of-a-kind traveling show. The short version of the film is viewable below or on YouTube.

The collaborative nature of the WYOmericana Caravan extends beyond the music. A tremendous amount of support from the greater Wyoming community has made this possible, including Wyoming Arts Council, WESTAF, BenderRuble Sound, Wyoming Public Radio, Western AF, Give’r, and over thirty past sponsors and Wyoming brands.
