Highway 22 over Teton Pass will be closing tonight at 10pm for avalanche mitigation. Could be earlier. Could be for an extended period. Plan accordingly. (WYDOT)

JACKSON HOLE, WYO – WYDOT will try to bring down what snow it can this evening. Teton Pass will close at 10pm tonight for avalanche mitigation.

This closure could be for an extended time as conditions are expected to worsen as the night progresses and into tomorrow.

According to WYDOT avalanche program manager John Fitzgerald, “We are expecting an extended closure. With significant winter weather upon us, we are anticipating the potential for additional road sections to close at some point during the next 24-48 hours.”

Hoback Canyon, especially at Cow of the Woods is another trouble spot that could slide naturally, or become closed to travel for avalanche control at some point.

Reduced visibility, winter driving conditions, and increasing avalanche hazard may force an earlier closure. Significant winter weather is currently impacting the region. As such, expect potential additional road closures as well as extended closures over the next 24-48 hours.

No parking between the Idaho State Line and the closure gate above Wilson will be strictly enforced, beginning at 6pm tonight. Highway travelers and backcountry users are advised to plan accordingly.
