WILSON, Wyo. — Heads up, folks. Driving conditions on Teton Pass look particularly challenging.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) issued a “no unnecessary travel” advisory for WY22 over Teton Pass at 3:03 p.m. on Friday. The agency also warned of reduced visibility. Chain law level 1 went into effect around 2:30 p.m.

The Pass could get up to 10 inches of snow today and tonight, according to a winter weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service early this morning.

According to WYDOT’s website, this kind of advisory is issued when the road is open but travel is not recommended due to hazardous driving conditions.

“Generally, this advisory is posted during winter months due to extremely icy conditions, when visibility is limited due to blowing snow, or when a combination of conditions makes travel ill-advised,” the agency’s website reads. “Only the most urgent of situations should warrant travel in a No Unnecessary Travel advisory. Drivers who attempt such travel should be familiar with local conditions and be very experienced with winter driving. Please keep in mind that by choosing to travel during hazardous conditions, you may be interfering with maintenance personnel and their efforts to improve highway safety.”
