JACKSON HOLE, WYO – That right on red turn coming out of High School Road to get on Highway 89 looks tempting. It is a no-no due to bike path traffic that often gets overlooked. Or how about that illegal left-hand turn onto Broadway from the left lane headed south in front of the Cowboy Bar? The streets are so misaligned it is practically a given first-time visitors are going to botch that one.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation has installed new “blank-out” signs at the intersections of West Broadway Ave and Cache Street (for Southbound no left turns), and at Broadway Ave. and High School Road (for Eastbound traffic no right turn on red). The signs were an upgrade from the previous black and white signs.
The new “blank-out” signs were installed to address illegal left turns at the intersection, and protect the pedestrians at the pathway crossing. WYDOT hopes the new, LED signs will catch the attention of drivers more than the old static signs they have replaced.
Similar blank-out signs were installed at the Y intersection in spring of 2016.
