JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Wyoming Department of Transportation spokesperson Stephanie Harsha called the recent wreck of the weigh station building atop Teton Pass a “total loss.”
The ‘scale house’ building houses weigh station equipment used to calculate the weight of trucks passing by with new technology that allows the station to alert dispatch with a warning when an overloaded transport passes by. It was struck by a motorist Sunday evening—a crash that blocked traffic on Highway 22, briefly.
“Our maintenance foreman Bruce Daigle is looking into costs now,” Harsha said, “but from what he can see it looks like it is totaled. It was knocked completely off the pad it was on.”
Harsha added that her department is glad no one was seriously injured in the accident. She is unsure how the state will go about paying for repairs or a new structure. When a guardrail or an arrestor is damaged, insurance usually covers the cost of repairs.
