CASPER, Wyo. — The woman who set fire to Wellspring Health Access Clinic in Casper last year was sentenced to five years in prison on Thursday, according to the United States Attorney’s Office, District of Wyoming.
Lorna Roxanne Green, age 22, received the minimum sentence. She was facing up to 20 years of prison time. Her sentence includes three years of supervised release following incarceration. U.S. District Court Judge Alan B. Johnson imposed the sentence.
Green admitted that she set fire to the under-construction Wellspring Health Access Clinic in May of 2022, which she admitted was motivated by her personal opposition to abortion. Green told authorities that the opening of the new clinic was giving her anxiety and nightmares. The clinic was going to offer OB/GYN services, gender-affirming care and abortion procedures.
“No matter what an individual’s opinions or objectives may be, the use of violence and property destruction to advance them is never acceptable,” U.S. Attorney Nicholas Vassallo said in a statement. “This was a reckless and serious crime which endangered the community and caused significant financial harm to the clinic’s owner. The sentence imposed today, five years of federal incarceration, appropriately reflects the gravity of Ms. Green’s offense.”
This crime was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Casper Police Department.
“This sentence reflects the FBI’s commitment to vigorously pursue investigations into crimes against pregnancy resource centers, faith-based organizations and reproductive health clinics,” FBI Special Agent in Charge Mark Michalek said in a statement.
