JACKSON, Wyo. — The National Weather Service’s Riverton, Wyo., office (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Jackson Hole and a Winter Storm Warning for the Teton and Gros Ventre ranges, in effect from 5 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26, until 11 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27.
In the valley, NWS calls for total snow accumulations between 5 and 9 inches by Friday night, along with winds gusting “as high as 30 mph, resulting in drifting/blowing snow.” In the Tetons, snowfall could amount to between 8 and 18 inches, with “up to 2 feet on the peaks,” according to NWS. In an additional alert covering most of western Wyoming, NWS anticipates that this will be the beginning of a multi-day snow event, with “several feet of snow” expected to fall in the mountains through Monday.
Vehicle travel is expected to be difficult during this sequence of storms. Hazardous driving conditions are anticipated during commuting hours on Thursday and Friday.
