Winter People’s Market begins this weekend

JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Fear not, the People’s Market may be done for the season but for the second year, the Jackson Hole Winter People’s Market will settle into the fairgrounds beginning this weekend.

Slow Food in the Tetons hosts the popular cure for cabin fever every other Saturday from December 16 to April 21, from 2-6pm in the Teton County Fairgrounds Building.

Dozens of local farmers and food producers will be on hand for the event that was so popular last year as a monthly gathering, Slow Food decided to double the fun this winter.

“This Winter People’s Market is such a fun event and a perfect antidote to wintertime cabin fever,” said Scott Steen, executive director of Slow Food in the Tetons. “We hope the community comes out to support local food producers and to stock up on delicious and healthy provisions.”

It’s a family affair featuring local and regional food, including regional winter produce, beef, pork, poultry and lamb from local ranches, dairy, eggs, honey, plus fermented, canned, and prepared foods. Customers will also be able to find the last of this year’s harvested vegetables form local farms, storage crops like potatoes, garlic and onions, and fresh produce from Vertical Harvest.

Wait, produce in winter?

“Slow Food wants people to know that you can still eat local healthy food in the winter in Jackson,” said Shauna Lockhart, a Slow Food board member. “Huidekoper Ranch in Wilson is still pulling delicious carrots from the ground!”

This first market of the season will also feature arts and crafts vendors for holiday shopping. All food vendors at the market welcome SNAP EBT Customers.
