WILSON, Wyo. — Jackson Hole Fire/EMS shared news of a structure fire in Wilson that occurred early on Wednesday, May 1, serving as a reminder to assess fire safety at home.
According to the agency, the fire was reported at 5:56 a.m. on Wednesday. Twenty-four Fire/EMS crew members responded, with a crew arriving at the home by 6:04 a.m.
“Quick action by the homeowner and a great response from Fire/EMS kept the damage from the fire to a minimum,” Fire/EMS said in its Facebook post.
The agency noted that the fire is being investigated, but they shared that it began in the roof area on the wood shake shingles.
“As this happened in the early morning hours, it is a good reminder to check that your smoke detectors are working,” Fire/EMS said.
In Teton County, all rooms used for sleeping purposes must have a smoke detector. Hallways leading to bedrooms also require smoke detectors. New construction requirements include smoke detectors being hard-wired to a building’s electrical system with battery backup. The county also recommends installing carbon monoxide detectors if the home has any devices that burn fossil fuels, including gas heaters, furnaces, oil fired boilers, fireplaces and wood stoves.
