JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jackson District Ranger of Bridger Teton National Forest will hold an information session next week that will share information on wildland fire preparedness for public and private lands. Local wildland fire managers will also present on the upcoming Munger Mountain prescribed fire.

The session is aimed for community members living in and around the Munger Mountain, Game Creek, Horse Creek and Porcupines Creek neighborhoods.

This wildfire preparedness event will take place at the Munger Mountain Elementary School in the common area on March 17, 2022, starting at 4:30 p.m. through 7 p.m. A live presentation will start at 6 p.m. For those not able to attend in person, a virtual option will be available for the presentation portion.

The Munger Mountain prescribed fire is part of the larger Teton to Snake Fuels Reduction Project, designed to decrease the risk from unwanted wildfires that could impact communities in the wildland-urban interface (WUI), specifically, Phillips Ridge, Fish Creek, Teton Village, Wilson, Munger Mountain, and the Fall Creek Corridor communities.

“Through years of planning and hard work between local homeowners, federal and state partners, many of these communities have already been able to decrease their risk by creating and maintaining defensible space on private property and the adjacent federal lands,” said BTNF. “Treatments, such as these, done before a wildfire starts, can provide firefighters the opportunity to minimize or mitigate impacts to private lands.”

Several representatives from Teton Area Wildfire Protection Coalition will be on-site providing wildfire preparedness information and answering questions on all things wildfire. There will be information booths from Teton County Emergency Management, Jackson Hole Fire/ EMS, Wyoming State Forestry, Teton Conservation District, Teton County Weed and Pest, The Raptor Center and Bridger Teton National Forest. Topics include creating and maintaining defensible space and hardening your home against flying embers, “Ready, Set, Go,” fire preparedness for your family and home ahead of a wildfire evacuation.
