JACKSON, Wyo. — The Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) has announced the seasonal commencement of grizzly bear research capture operations, conducted along with the Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team.
WGFD’s announcement stated that capture operations are being planned in “areas of northwest Wyoming beginning this spring and continuing through early fall,” without specifying exact dates or locations.
“Annual monitoring of this population is vital to the ongoing management and conservation of grizzly bears in Wyoming,” WGFD said in the announcement. “Information obtained through these efforts is used to assess the status and health of grizzly bears in the ecosystem and provides insight into population dynamics critical to demonstrate the continued recovery and conservation of grizzly bears.”
WGFD notes that capture areas will be closed to the public and will be clearly marked with warning signs.
“It is critical that all members of the public heed these signs,” WGFD’s announcement reads.
