For the last century, Wyoming cowboys have “drifted” their cattle each fall out of the mountains and into the desert for the winter. The cows want nothing to do with the Winds in the winter, but our racers don’t have that same sense of self-preservation. “Drifters” experience Wyoming’s Wind River Range in Wyoming’s terms by completing The Drift: a 28-mile marathon or a 13-mile half-marathon. Choose your discipline: ski, bike or run, and set out to finish the course before Mother Nature finds a way to finish it for you. It is still very much winter here in early March — the temperatures can be sub-zero; the wind can be relentless; the snowfall is often measured in feet. If you want a fast, manicured course with aid stations every few miles, this isn’t your race. If you want a true challenge in magical, untamed wild country, join us. Become a Drifter. You won’t regret it.

The Drift 28-miler and half marathon is Saturday, March 9. Learn more and register here.
