Victim of Pinedale structure fire identified

PINEDALE, WY — The victim of last week’s structure fire at 121 North Ashley in Pinedale has been positively identified as 67-year-old James Tipton of Pinedale, Wyoming.

The Sublette County Sheriff’s Office, Sublette County United Fire, Sublette County EMS, and Wyoming Highway Patrol responded to the fire on July 10. One occupant of the home, Tricia Gunderson, had made it out, but another was reported still inside. By the time rescue crews reached him, he was already deceased, but officials couldn’t make a positive identification at the time.

An autopsy identified the victim as Tipton, but has not yet determined a cause of death. The fire is still under investigation.

Gunderson was taken to the Pinedale Medical Clinic and then life-flighted to EIRMAC for further treatment. As of today, her condition is improving and she will likely be released from the hospital soon.
