WYOMING — The University of Wyoming Extension (UW) has announced the creation of a new program designed to inspire family connection through outdoor exploration.

The free “Ready, Set, Explore” program is open to any family in the state. Every month, participants will be emailed a project packet including an outdoor activity, a journaling prompt, tips about health and nature, a snack idea and a handout about a natural resource.

Participating families are asked to complete at least four of the activities in the packet, answer a series of questions about them, email in those answers and submit photos of themselves completing the tasks. Upon completion of those steps, participants can receive a small nature-themed prize each month.

November’s activities, for example, included creating a fall wreath, reading a book about nature and going on a gratitude walk.

“Families are not limited to parents with young children,” UW said via press release. “Any group of people who care about each other can participate.”

The program began in October and will continue through April 2025. Groups who participate in the program for four of the seven months will qualify for an annual day use pass for Wyoming State Parks. Participants can retroactively complete projects from past months. See October and November’s project packets here. Register for the program here.
