JACKSON, Wyo. — Starting Wednesday, the Town will be implementing user fees for the fast-charging electric vehicle charging stations in the parking garage on Millward Street. The new rates, which couldn’t take effect until the Town’s 2027 Fiscal Year budget was approved, come after electricity-related fees for fast chargers increased by 3.5 times.

Drivers using the fast chargers will pay 25 cents per kilowatt-hour, with an additional 10-cent-per-kilowatt-hour surcharge from 7 to 9 a.m., when electricity demands are highest. An overstay fee of 25 cents per minute will also take effect beginning 30 minutes after a vehicle has finished charging.

Ecosystem Stewardship Administrator Tanya Anderson told Buckrail that the fees come as a result of higher taxes on the kilowatt-hours for fast-charging stations.

“They use a lot more electricity,” Anderson said. “Maintenance costs are way higher. … We’re just aiming to break even.”
