UPDATE 9:39 a.m.: 191/189 through Hoback Canyon is open to all traffic in both directions as of 9:38 a.m.

HOBACK, Wyo. — According to the Wyoming Department of Transporation (WYDOT), US 191/189 through Hoback Canyon will close at 7:30 a.m. on March 8 for avalanche infrastructure repairs and avalanche mitigation.

Drivers can expect intermittent closures with up to 15 minute stop delays and must obey roadside flaggers between Hoback Junction and Pinedale from milepost 156 to 160.

The closure is expected to last two hours but might open earlier or later depending on mitigation results. Reduced visibility, winter driving conditions and increased avalanche hazard may force an earlier closure.

This avalanche mitigation closure comes after an avalanche buried a section of Highway 191 March 1.
