WYOMING – Unemployment claims soared in Wyoming last week as the number of jobless also grows exponentially across the country as the COVID outbreak worsens.
According to statistics released Thursday by the U.S. Department of Labor, Wyoming filed 2,339 claims for the week ending March 21. That’s up 352% from the previous week’s 517 claims. Still, the jump paled in comparison to neighboring states Montana (+1,700%), Idaho (+1,191%), and Colorado (+737%).
Unemployment in the U.S. rose 1,053% in the same timeframe.
Wyoming currently has 70 confirmed cases of COVID-19. There is no stay-at-home order in Wyoming. Currently, 23 states have enacted executive stay-at-home orders including Idaho and Colorado. Montana’s will go into effect March 28.
