JACKSON, Wyo. — Turning Point, a local pregnancy resource center, recently announced that it has changed its name to Compass Women’s Care.

According to a May 25 press release, the Board of Turning Point approved a rebranding campaign last month that more appropriately addresses the work of the non-profit organization.

“The new name reflects the true nature of our services, providing care to women,” said the press release.

Turning Point’s service offerings have changed over the years since its establishment in 1985. The center only began providing medical services in 2012. These medical services include free and confidential pregnancy testing and limited ultrasound under the direction and supervision of licensed physician, Dr. Mary Girling, OBGYN.

“Turning Point has been through many changes since our inception in 1985. We want women to know we are a place they can turn to without judgment,” said Executive Director Carolyn Warziniack. “Our center aims to help our clients step outside of their crisis mindset and find truth. A Compass represents many aspects of the work we do daily: to help the women we serve navigate their situation and to help them find their true north.”

As part of Compass Women’s Care educational offerings, its registered nurse discusses all pregnancy options which include parenting, adoption and abortion.

“If a client desires to parent, we have educational classes during the pregnancy and up to two years of age. Our clients earn material support and baby items as they participate and complete classes. If a client prefers to place her baby for adoption, we have three Wyoming adoption agencies to which we refer our clients.”

However, if a client chooses abortion Compass Women’s Care does not refer for or provide abortions.

“Our newest medical offering is Post Abortion Care which our registered nurse administers.”

Abortion is currently legal in Wyoming. On March 22, Teton County’s Ninth District Court Judge Melissa Owens issued a temporary restraining order halting the enforcement of the “Life is a Human Right Act,” Wyoming’s law that aims to ban abortion.

She's a lover of alliteration, easy-to-follow recipes and board games when everyone knows the rules. Her favorite aspect about living in the Tetons is the collective admiration that Wyomingites share for the land and the life that it sustains.
