JACKSON, Wyo. — The Town Council and Town’s Planning Commission Workshop will discuss the recently implemented moratorium on the size and scale of large commercial buildings on Monday, July 15 at 1:30 p.m. Public comment will be taken at this meeting and attendance and participation are welcomed both in person and virtually.

On June 3, Jackson’s Town Council unanimously supported an emergency moratorium on development of commercial buildings larger than 35,000 square feet.

During the meeting, community members are encouraged to share perspective and input about proposed changes and to bring forward related ideas. Staff is requesting that Council and the Planning Commission provide direction on preferred options for changes to the Land Development Regulations and/or Design Guidelines. Town Council will use community input to create a redline draft of changes for consideration at upcoming meetings.

According to the Town, the workshop will directly address the size of buildings and not secondary or off-site impacts such as outcomes on traffic or the environment.

“Town staff understands the purpose of the moratorium as implementing quick and effective changes to reduce the size of buildings in a reasonable manner knowing that a more thorough, comprehensive review may be necessary in the future,” Town Planning Director Paul Anthony said in the announcement.

The moratorium is scheduled to expire on Tuesday, October 1.

Community members can email comments to Town Council here or by emailing: council@jacksonwy.gov. Community members can attend in-person at Town Hall or via Zoom by using password 83001. Anyone can share comments for up to three minutes at specific times. Council meetings can be viewed on the Town’s website.
