Chamber asks local businesses what they think about parking Traffic sign Parking Buckrail - Jackson Hole, news

JACKSON, WY — Town of Jackson released a draft Downtown Parking and Mobility Management plan Thursday, March 28 with recommendations intended to improve parking availability, reduce traffic congestion, and increase pedestrian and bike mobility in the Town Square and surrounding areas.

Town of Jackson worked with consultant Kimley Horn to come up with parking recommendations. The draft plan specifically focuses on areas that are most congested during the peak summer season. It also includes detailed summaries of existing parking conditions and the community outreach process thus far.

Suggestions include extending parking enforcement hours downtown from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. to discourage long-term and employee parking after 3 p.m., and escalating fine structure for repeat violators, and implementing a four-hour parking limit in the Home Ranch Lot during the peak summer season (May 15-September 15). Long-term recommendations include paid street parking downtown, with the option of possible discounts for locals.

“Nearly everyone has a strong opinion about parking in the Town Square area,” said Paul Anthony, principal planner for the Town of Jackson. “Our downtown is the heart of the community and it’s a place that we all experience together.“

The community is invited to attend a presentation by consultant Kimley Horn on the plan’s recommendations at a public open house on Tuesday, April 9 from 6-8 p.m. at the Wort Hotel in the Jackson Room. The community will also be able to provide public comment at this open house.

In addition, the Town Council will hold a workshop on the plan on Wednesday, April 10, from 10 a.m. – noon in the Council Chambers of the Town Hall. Public comment will not likely be taken at the Council workshop, but there will be future opportunities for public comment at the Planning Commission and Town Council meetings planned for later this spring when the Town begins the process to consider formal adoption of the Downtown Parking and Mobility Management Plan.
